Week of November 24

Weekly Update in 5D We had an exciting and productive week of learning! ➕ Math — Coordinate Geometry This week we continued exploring coordinate geometry. Students practiced using directional language ( up, down, left, and  right)  to move along a grid and locate points accurately. On Tuesday, we transformed the entire classroom into a coordinate plane! In pairs, students took turns being blindfolded and used only their partner’s directional instructions to navigate to a checkpoint. This activity helped build clear communication skills, spatial reasoning, and confidence in using mathematical language.                      Another highlight this week was our small-group work with graph paper. Students teamed up to plot the vertices of different polygons using ordered pairs. Once their shapes were drawn, groups practiced   translating   the entire shape on the grid—moving it up, down, left, or right while...

Week of November 17!

What a wonderful week in 5D! 🌟 We are becoming coordinate-plotting pros!  This week, we built our understanding of the coordinate plane by graphing points, creating shapes, and applying our skills through a Battleship activity using ordered pairs. Students practiced accuracy and spatial reasoning while having fun with the challenge! Our  flight unit  took off (literally!)  We launched our flight unit with paper-airplane testing and design challenges, exploring how different shapes and folds affect flight. Métis Week Inspired by the visual art and teachings of Métis artist  Christi Belcourt  from Manito Sahkahigan (Lac Ste. Anne, Alberta), students created their own beautiful dot-art pieces. We ended the week with creativity, laughter, and of course… a little jigging!    See you next week 5D! - Ms. Hildebrandt

Welcome!

Welcome! I am so excited to be continuing   the 202 5 -202 6   year   with you ! This year, our whole school will be   using Blogger to make regular   agenda posts.      To make it easier for you,   you can   add the blog right on to the home screen of your phone , iPad   or tablet .  We hope this makes the communication between home and school easier and opens up great conversations between you and your child.     The CBE and Mrs. Brinson will be communicating information to you through School Messenger   email titled ‘Northern Lights News for ___” .   This email will include a link to the   Northern Lights School Website   so messages can be translated into any language.       To make sure you receive all   email messages, please   SUBSCRIBE   using the email address you gave to the school.
