This week in 5D was busy! We continued working on our final persuasive writing piece. We all chose a source of energy to research, and used convincing language to persuade our reader that it is the best choice! We continued working on our measurement unit and made connections between square centimeters, square meters, and square kilometers!   We made Drum Fit routines!   And we finished off the week learning about Anishinaabe clean water activist Autumn Peltier for Earth Day! The students worked so hard making Earth Day advocacy posters with great visuals and slogans to spread the message!    

Last week in 5D we continued working along in our measurement unit, and practiced writing algebraic equations for area and perimeter!         Some of us presented our expert station slideshows!   And we coded with our grade 2 buddies!    

A quick update from our week! Reminder: Nose Creek Open House is on April 23 for incoming Grade 6 students. In Social Studies, students presented their Ancient Civilizations research to eachother! There was lots of hard work and great effort all around! In Math, we continued measurement, and in Language Arts, we worked on persuasive writing. In Science, we did an experiment where we calculated density (D = m ÷ v) of materials and determined whether they would float or sink!  We also enjoyed the sunshine on Friday!

Reminder: No school Friday! We jumped back into learning after Spring Break with our Matter unit, reviewing the scientific method and how temperature affects particles and their movement through an experiment. In math, we began our measure ment unit, and explored how different rectangles can have the same perimeter but different areas using geoboards. Students also had some fun on April Fools’ Day — they teamed up and definitely got me good!
