This week in 5D was busy!

We continued working on our final persuasive writing piece. We all chose a source of energy to research, and used convincing language to persuade our reader that it is the best choice!



We continued working on our measurement unit and made connections between square centimeters, square meters, and square kilometers!



 

We made Drum Fit routines!

 









And we finished off the week learning about Anishinaabe clean water activist Autumn Peltier for Earth Day! The students worked so hard making Earth Day advocacy posters with great visuals and slogans to spread the message!

What a wonderful week in 5D! 🌟 We are becoming coordinate-plotting pros!  This week, we built our understanding of the coordinate plane by graphing points, creating shapes, and applying our skills through a Battleship activity using ordered pairs. Students practiced accuracy and spatial reasoning while having fun with the challenge! Our  flight unit  took off (literally!)  We launched our flight unit with paper-airplane testing and design challenges, exploring how different shapes and folds affect flight. Métis Week Inspired by the visual art and teachings of Métis artist  Christi Belcourt  from Manito Sahkahigan (Lac Ste. Anne, Alberta), students created their own beautiful dot-art pieces. The invitation link can be found on  5D’s Google Classroom . What a fantastic week in 5D! Field Trip! We kicked off the week with our field trip to the Hangar Flight Museum! Students explored a variety of historic aircraft during our guided tour. Some class favourites included the Quickie 2 and the impressive Avro Lancaster . After the tour, we headed into the Rocket Lab where students built and tested their own launchers, experimenting with how thrust affects flight. Procedural Writing Back in the classroom, students applied what they learned in the Rocket Lab to strengthen their procedural writing skills. We reviewed what makes detailed step-by-step instructions effective—specific verbs, precise descriptions of size and location, and clear organization.
