Week of February 23rd

Reminder: No school on Friday, February 27.

This week, our school community came together to recognize Pink Shirt Day. We attended a meaningful assembly and classrooms across the school participated in activities organized by our hardworking Grade 5 Leadership Team. It was wonderful to see students take initiative and help lead conversations about kindness, inclusion, and standing up for others. We are proud of the leadership and responsibility they demonstrated!

In science, we began our new unit on matter. Students explored the properties of solids, liquids, and gases by acting as “molecules” around the classroom. As solids, they stayed tightly packed and vibrated in place. As liquids, they remained close together but were able to move past one another. As gases, they spread out and moved freely throughout the space.

In writing, we are focusing on grammar, sentence structure, and note-taking. Students practiced identifying complete sentences, improving sentence variety, and using correct punctuation and capitalization to strengthen the clarity of their writing.

We also held our Science Fair this week. A big congratulations to all of our Grade 5 students who worked so hard on their projects. They really put their curiosity, creativity, and effort on display. Well done, Grade 5s!
