Reminder: All families are asked to book a 15-minute conference time on March 19 or March 20 for our Student-Involved Conferences. Please sign up through your MyCBE Parent Account.

During the conference, your child will share their learning with you. Teachers will connect the work being shown to the report card marks and comments that were shared on February 24.

Weekly recap:

This week students practiced solving multiplication and division word problems. In Social Studies, we continued researching ancient civilizations and working hard on our informational writing.



We also started our persuasive writing unit and are practicing using descriptive, convincing language to support our opinions.


In PE, students enjoyed playing a full group hockey game, and we were also grateful to spend time drumming and learning about Cree and Anishinaabe teachings with Knowledge Keeper Chantal.


On Friday we learned about the work that the Métis do to set the trapline! By looking at the details of animal tracks, we began learning how to track rabbits (wâposak). We recorded the different types of tracks we saw in our sketchbooks, noticed the passing of time between different tracks, and made guesses about what the rabbits were doing.

What a wonderful week in 5D! 🌟 We are becoming coordinate-plotting pros!  This week, we built our understanding of the coordinate plane by graphing points, creating shapes, and applying our skills through a Battleship activity using ordered pairs. Students practiced accuracy and spatial reasoning while having fun with the challenge! Our  flight unit  took off (literally!)  We launched our flight unit with paper-airplane testing and design challenges, exploring how different shapes and folds affect flight. Métis Week Inspired by the visual art and teachings of Métis artist  Christi Belcourt  from Manito Sahkahigan (Lac Ste. Anne, Alberta), students created their own beautiful dot-art pieces. The invitation link can be found on  5D’s Google Classroom . What a fantastic week in 5D! Field Trip! We kicked off the week with our field trip to the Hangar Flight Museum! Students explored a variety of historic aircraft during our guided tour. Some class favourites included the Quickie 2 and the impressive Avro Lancaster . After the tour, we headed into the Rocket Lab where students built and tested their own launchers, experimenting with how thrust affects flight. Procedural Writing Back in the classroom, students applied what they learned in the Rocket Lab to strengthen their procedural writing skills.
