 Week of September 11th,  2026!

Hello 5D!

This week was filled with excitement and fun activities, and we are going to tell you all about it. Firstly, we brought in important items from home in a paper bag, and we showed them under the document camera to the whole class. As a class, we had to infer why the item was special, and what it represented about them! In math, we practiced our basic facts, and we described ourselves using numbers that represent us! For example, we used division, fractions, mutliplication, addition, subtraction, percentages, and measurement to describe who we are! We also participated in a friendly Shipwrecked competition with Mrs. Boldt's class, and we are so proud to annouce that we beat our previous time, and we didnt leave anyone stranded this time! 

In our literacy stations, we started Book Making Station! We began writing graphic novels, cookbooks, fiction in diferent genres, non-fiction, and so much more! We are so excited to share the finished books when they are ready for the classroom library! Lastly, we met our Grade 2 buddies today, and played a fun game that helped us learn about eachother. In conclusion, this was an amazing week for 5D, and we had a spectacular Friday!

What a wonderful week in 5D! 🌟 We are becoming coordinate-plotting pros!  This week, we built our understanding of the coordinate plane by graphing points, creating shapes, and applying our skills through a Battleship activity using ordered pairs. Students practiced accuracy and spatial reasoning while having fun with the challenge! Our  flight unit  took off (literally!)  We launched our flight unit with paper-airplane testing and design challenges, exploring how different shapes and folds affect flight. Métis Week Inspired by the visual art and teachings of Métis artist  Christi Belcourt  from Manito Sahkahigan (Lac Ste. Anne, Alberta), students created their own beautiful dot-art pieces. The invitation link can be found on  5D’s Google Classroom . What a fantastic week in 5D! Field Trip! We kicked off the week with our field trip to the Hangar Flight Museum! Students explored a variety of historic aircraft during our guided tour. Some class favourites included the Quickie 2 and the impressive Avro Lancaster . After the tour, we headed into the Rocket Lab where students built and tested their own launchers, experimenting with how thrust affects flight. Procedural Writing Back in the classroom, students applied what they learned in the Rocket Lab to strengthen their procedural writing skills. Week of January 12 and 19!

The past two weeks have been full of learning, thinking, and creativity in our classroom and we have lots underway! Social Studies : Students debated the benefits of settling near rivers versus coastlines for ancient civilizations, considering factors like trade, food, safety, and transportation. To wrap up our geography unit, students have begun writing postcards from the perspective of someone living in an ancient civilization, describing the geographical features of their environment and how those features shaped daily life. Physical Education : Lately we have been working on our basketball skills, practicing shooting, dribbling, and layups. These foundational skills will help prepare us as we move into game play, teamwork, and strategy in the coming weeks. Math : We have wrapped up addition and subtraction and transitioned into a new unit on data and statistics.
