- Next week: We are excited to welcome Tims Camps to our school next week! Students will participate in fun, interactive activities focused on teamwork, communication, problem solving, respect, and perseverance. The program is offered at no cost to families.

Classroom update:

Week of September 14, 2026!

Hello viewers! We had a spectacular week together in 5D, and we are about to tell you all about it! Firstly, we learned about Terry Fox, his Marathon of Hope, and his legacy all week! For example, in PE, we played tag games all week to prepare for the Terry Fox Run, wrote about why he is a hero, and we even helped our buddies with our Terry Fox name tags and tattoos! We showed some terrific leadership skills. 

Additionally, we started visual journals for Terry Fox art, and we added a pouch to store our published writing in safely. In science, we thought of all the things that we want to learn this year, and know already based on some pictures of different scientific phenomena we will be learning about in grade 5 (things that we can study based on what we see!)

Last but not least, we mooed together...Without telling anyone why...

What a wonderful week in 5D! 🌟 We are becoming coordinate-plotting pros!  This week, we built our understanding of the coordinate plane by graphing points, creating shapes, and applying our skills through a Battleship activity using ordered pairs. Students practiced accuracy and spatial reasoning while having fun with the challenge! Our  flight unit  took off (literally!)  We launched our flight unit with paper-airplane testing and design challenges, exploring how different shapes and folds affect flight. Métis Week Inspired by the visual art and teachings of Métis artist  Christi Belcourt  from Manito Sahkahigan (Lac Ste. Anne, Alberta), students created their own beautiful dot-art pieces. Reminder for students participating in the Science Fair:  Please make sure to join the Science Fair Google Classroom for important updates and information. The invitation link can be found on  5D’s Google Classroom . What a fantastic week in 5D! Field Trip! We kicked off the week with our field trip to the Hangar Flight Museum! Students explored a variety of historic aircraft during our guided tour. Some class favourites included the Quickie 2 and the impressive Avro Lancaster . After the tour, we headed into the Rocket Lab where students built and tested their own launchers, experimenting with how thrust affects flight. Procedural Writing Back in the classroom, students applied what they learned in the Rocket Lab to strengthen their procedural writing skills. We reviewed what makes detailed step-by-step instructions effective—specific verbs, precise descriptions of size and location, and clear organization. Week of January 12 and 19!

The past two weeks have been full of learning, thinking, and creativity in our classroom and we have lots underway! Social Studies : Students debated the benefits of settling near rivers versus coastlines for ancient civilizations, considering factors like trade, food, safety, and transportation. To wrap up our geography unit, students have begun writing postcards from the perspective of someone living in an ancient civilization, describing the geographical features of their environment and how those features shaped daily life. Physical Education : Lately we have been working on our basketball skills, practicing shooting, dribbling, and layups. These foundational skills will help prepare us as we move into game play, teamwork, and strategy in the coming weeks. Math : We have wrapped up addition and subtraction and transitioned into a new unit on data and statistics.
